Console Wars Part I – The NES Vs The Sega Master System

By Jerome Higbee

Home entertainment took a decidedly upward turn when in the 1980s at-home game console wars heated up the market place. Initially the move away from arcade games was slow in coming and the frequently less than adequately conceived and executed games that had flooded the market made it hard for consumers to see the advantages of inviting costly consoles into their living rooms. Nonetheless, visionary game console designers were undaunted and before long they would take the bull by the horns and introduce themselves to a pensive but overall cautiously optimistic audience. On the one side there was the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), an eight bit videogame console that made its long awaited American debut in 1985. On the other side was the Sega Master System, another eight bit console, which made its mark on the American video game market in 1986. Both game consoles were considered third generation technology, and for at-home gamers who were unsure whether letting go of their Atari for the new technology really was the best move, advertising and public relations departments soon went into overdrive.

Chrono Trigger DS Review

Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS

Chrono Trigger DS is the DS port of the popular SNES game with the same name. With more content than the SNES version, if you were one of the many fans of the original (or the 1999 Playstation port), this is definitely worth your time. If you've played the original, there isn't too much of a difference here. This doesn't change the fact that it's a spectacular game, but you have to remember: this isn't a sequel, it's a port. Actually, it's more of a re-release than a port but that's just because of some added content.

Q & A with Bob’s Game creator, Robert Pelloni

Bob's Game is the culmination of 15,000 hours of hard work and perseverance, over the span of 5 years, all done by one man. The Best RPG of All Time

By Brendan Durkin

When Baldur's Gate came out in 1998, I a middle school kid introduced to it by watching my dad play it. Baldur's Gate, for me, is the epitome of what a medieval fantasy role-playing game should be. I personally enjoy when a game, such as Baldur's Gate, starts the player out with little more than a stick and a few gold coins. Nothing is more fun than running around an area and picking up everything imaginable just so when I sell all the junk I found I can afford a decent piece of chain mail.
